The Annual Spring Art Show is held during May at The Art Center in Alturas.  It is a student art show sponsored by Modoc High School and The Modoc County Arts Council.  Come and see the beautiful artwork by our local youth.  This year's event will be a contest and judged.  Prizes will be awarded.

The Arts in Education Program is made possible from funding through the Modoc Arts Council along with matching funds from the U.S. Department of Education. It provides funding for local artists to teach art to students in a school setting, stressing the importance of creative thinking, problem solving, and positive self-expression as a foundation for the overall well-being of young people.

With the cooperation of local businesses, the Modoc County Arts Council has funded the creation and maintenance of beautiful murals in Alturas and several other towns in Modoc County.

Our local community radio station and recording studio! Supported through donations and funding from a grant administered by the Modoc County Arts Council for The Art Center.

The Modoc County Arts Council is working to expand your art experiences in Modoc County.

The Modoc County Poetry Out Loud contest was held Thursday February 7th at the Modoc High School Social Hall in Alturas.  Three contestants competed for the chance to go to the Poetry Out Loud California State Finals in Sacramento March 10-11th.  The winner was Hallie Seely of Cedarville.  She showed great emphasis and eloquence in reciting her two poems, “Youth”, by James Wright, and “Burning in the Rain”, by Richard Blanco.  Hallie is a sophomore at Surprise Valley High School in Cedarville.  Other contestants did very well – Lila Beach (runner up) of Cedarville, a freshman at SVHS, and Cindy Hinze of Cedarville, a senior at New Day Academy.

Surprise Valley High School’s teacher David Schulz is responsible for making Poetry Out Loud part of his curriculum this year.  The result was that his high school contest had eight students competing for two spots in the county final.  Great job Mr. Schulz!

Hallie Seely did a wonderful job at the POL state final in Sacramento!  Congratulations to winner Lily Bogas of Marin County!
